Tourism in Tocantins: The Wonderful Jalapão

Anyone who knows or dreams of knowing Tocantins has surely heard of the paradise that is Jalapão, our most famous tourist spot.

Jalapão is located about 350 km from the capital of Tocantins, Palmas, and is situated between the municipalities of Mateiros, Ponte Alta do Tocantins, São Félix do Tocantins, and Novo Acordo.

The park itself has a total area of approximately 34 thousand kilometers of natural beauty. Waterfalls, dunes, and fervedouros (natural springs) can be admired at any time of the year.

The official origin of the name Jalapão comes from the name of the Jalapa plant, which is abundant in the region and displays beautiful white flowers when it blooms, between the months of May and July.

The main vegetation in the region is the cerrado, allowing us to see a variety of wonderful landscapes with rich biodiversity.

Tourists can ride in Jeeps, take relaxing baths in the waters of the fervedouros, and even hike to challenge themselves and appreciate the beauties that Jalapão has to offer.

Among the beauties found in Jalapão, you can find:

  • Dunes of Jalapão: a set of dunes that is the heart of Jalapão, creating unforgettable beauty at sunset.
  • Waterfall of Velha: the largest waterfall in Jalapão, which carries many legends around it. It’s a beautiful sight for adventurers who can spend an entire day hiking to reach it.
  • Waterfall of Formiga: with very transparent waters, the Formiga waterfall is the well-known postcard of Jalapão, second only to the Dunes.
  • Fervedouros: pools that prevent tourists from sinking due to the pressure of their water. The prices are very affordable for spending some time enjoying the physics and beauty of the place.

In addition to these wonders, there are more waterfalls, places to visit, and people to meet.

Jalapão is wonderful, and Tocantins preserves it with great pride. And you? Did you already know about this natural beauty of Tocantins?
